Writing Summits / Workshops for Authors

Join some of the top experts in the Writing World for a dynamic online summit designed to help you build skills to get your words on the page and your stories out into the world. Many writing events focus on the mechanics of the writing, but few look at all those ancillary skills that surround and impact your creative work.

The Writer Igniter FLOW Summit uses DIY MFA's signature FLOW Framework to help you find your focus, live your learning, overcome your obstacles, and work your words.

By the end of this event, you will have a number of skills in your back pocket to help you hone your creative process, so you can finally finish that book once and for all, and get it in the hands of your readers.

Tools for Authors

ProWritingAid is an all‑in‑one editing tool designed to help writers strengthen their craft. It analyzes your writing for clarity, pacing, style, grammar, and readability, offering detailed suggestions that go far beyond basic spellcheck. With in‑depth reports, real‑time feedback, and tools for everything from overused words to sentence structure, it’s like having a personal editor available whenever you need one.

Whether you’re drafting a novel, polishing a chapter, or tightening your prose before submission, ProWritingAid helps you write with confidence and intention.

MY REVIEW: I’m a huge fan of ProWritingAid. It’s incredibly helpful and offers insights on pacing, over‑telling, character voice, character agency, and more. It also integrates directly with Microsoft Word, which makes it easy to use during revisions. As a diagnostic tool for identifying what needs attention, it’s fantastic.

Scrivener unites everything you need to write, research and arrange long documents in a single, powerful app. At its heart is a simple ring-binder metaphor that allows you to gather your material and flick between different parts of your manuscript, notes and references with ease. Break your text into manageable sections of any size and leave Scrivener to stitch them together. Integrated outlining tools let you plan everything first or restructure later. And as your project grows, you’ll find that Scrivener grows with it.

Whether you plan or plunge, Scrivener works your way: hammer out every last detail before typing a word, or carve out a draft and restructure later. Or mix your methods and do a bit of both. In Scrivener, everything you write is integrated into an easy-to-use project outline. So working with an overview of your manuscript is only ever a click away, and turning Chapter Four into Chapter One is as simple as drag and drop.

MY REVIEW: Scrivener is a fantastic tool for organizing long‑form writing. I downloaded it to help keep my scenes, notes, and ideas in one place, and I finally understand why so many authors love it. The drag‑and‑drop structure, built‑in outlining, and easy navigation make managing a WIP so much smoother. Plus, there are plenty of free tutorials online to help you get started.
